The Three Learning Domain
Study is the act of learning and spending time discovering information, explore knowledge, find out the fact and the truth, and change something in life. As we know that studying creates a big change for a learner. Study gives an integrated change for t e learner. Every time we study, we surely have a goal. That goal is our reason why do we study. As a teacher, a teacher needs to design a capability formula as the learning objectives which design it in some domain learning.
The three domains are cognitive, affective, and psychomotor. Domains can be thought of as categories. Cognitive is for mental skills (Knowledge), affective is for growth in feelings or emotional areas (Attitude), while psychomotor is for manual or physical skills (Skills). After learning, the learner should have acquires these new skills, knowledge, or attitudes.
Cognitive is the ability of managing “learning strategy and thinking” of someone in a large definition, including in solving problem. The other name, this domain is called self management behavior. First, cognitive domain is related with intellectual ability, encompass; knowledge (an reintroduce and remind the fact of an information, concept, or principle, for example quote prices from memory to a customer. A cashire can memorize and recall the prices of a produt. Second, it’s related to comprehension; is the ability in understanding the lesson without connect it to another lesson. Third is application, Use a concept in a new situation or unprompted use of an abstraction. Applies what was learned in the classroom into the workplace, for example apply how to handle a telephone in an office if you receive a call.
Fourth, analysis is the ability in separating material or concepts into component parts so that its organizational structure may be understood. Distinguishes between facts and inferences. Fifth, synthesis, Put parts together to form a whole, with emphasis on creating a new meaning or structure. And the last one is evaluation, make judgments about the value of ideas or materials, for example, select the most effective solution or hire the most qualified candidate.
Affective deals with attention, attitude, appreciate, feeling, value, enthusiasms, motivation and emotion. It includes; first, receiving. Receiving is awareness, willingness to hear, selected attention, for example , listen to others or the olders with respect. Second, responding is activated the enthusiasms of the learners, it makes the learners active not passive. In other hand, it’s said an ability to respond. For example, participates in class discussions or gives a wuestion in a presentation. Third, valuing is the worth or value a person attaches to a particular object, phenomenon, or behavior, for example demonstrates belief in the democratic process or shows the ability to solve problems. Fouth, organizaton, organizes values into priorities by contrasting different values, resolving conflicts between them, and creating an unique value system. For example, accepts responsibility for one’s behavior or prioritizes time effectively to meet the needs of the organization, family, and self. The fifth is, characterization. It has as a value system that controls their behavior. For example, the learners are expected to be able to show self-reliance when working independently or a learner has to have a sense-of belonging feeling, and also love her/his profession. Cooperates in group activities (displays teamwork). Values people for what they are, not how they look.
Everytime we have finished our study we are expected to able to to the learning objectives and aply it in our daily life, and the most real act of the result of the study is having a skill. Psychomotor domain includes physical movement, coordination, and use of the motor-skill areas. Development of these skills requires practice and is measured in terms of speed, precision, distance, procedures, or techniques in execution.
Psychomotor includes; firs,t perception is the ability to use sensory cues to guide motor activity. This ranges from sensory stimulation, through cue selection, to translation. For example, adjusts heat of stove to correct temperature by smell and taste of food. Second, set is a readiness to act. It includes mental, physical, and emotional sets. For example, shows desire to learn a new process (motivation). Third, guided response is the early stages in learning a complex skill that includes imitation and trial and error. For example, follows instructions to build a model. Fourth, Mechanism is the intermediate stage in learning a complex skill. For example, use a personal computer or drive a car. Fifth, Complex Overt Response is the he skillful performance of motor acts that involve complex movement patterns. For example, operates a computer quickly and accurately. Displays competence while playing the piano or viola. Sixth, adaptation on this part, skills are well developed and the individual can modify movement patterns to fit special requirements. For example, responds effectively to unexpected experiences. The seventh is origination, it’s the creating new movement patterns to fit a particular situation or specific problem. For example, constructs a new theory. The last is speech behavior, an ability deals with oral communication. For example, doing speech in front of class or public.
Human needs all the ability above that is called the result of learning something. They need to have a change ih their domain learning to reach their goal of studying. All that we have learned demands us to show our ability in all aspects, such as cognitive(knowlegde), affective (attitude), and psychomotor (skill). We need to combine them well and make it work together.
